- 1). Measure the length and perimeter of a toilet paper roll. Cut a piece of white paper to the length of the toilet paper roll and 1 inch wider than the perimeter.
- 2). Glue the paper to the cardboard roll, overlapping the edges by 1/2 inch.
- 3). Cut a circle of paper that is 1 inch wider than the diameter of the toilet paper roll. Cut a slit from one edge to the center of the circle. Overlap the cut edges to form a cone and glue the edges together. Glue the cone to the top of the turret and allow to dry.
- 4). Draw bricks, windows and other decorations on the finished turret with markers or paint.
- 1). Draw a triangle wedge on the bottom of a cylindrical oatmeal box from the center and extending one-fourth of the way across the box bottom. Draw a rectangle on the side of the oatmeal box from one edge to the other of the wedge and extending down two inches, lengthening the bottom edge of the wedge. Cut this wedge from the box with a craft knife.
- 2). Draw a 2-inch line down from the top edge of the oatmeal box and another 2-inch line two inches from the first. Cut across the bottom of the lines to remove a 2-inch square from the edge of the box. Repeat three times, evenly spaced around the box top. This will make the uneven top of the turret.
- 3). Cut the top flaps from an appliance box. Turn the box upside down and mark a door and windows. Cut these out as well, using a craft knife, to make a castle. Tape the turret to the corner of an appliance box castle with the wedge cut out of the bottom fitted against the corner of the box. Repeat with three more oatmeal boxes. Paint the castle and turrets to resemble stones.
- 1). Insert the bottom of a cake ice cream cone into the top of a paper towel tube. Use frosting to glue the cone in place. The top opening of the cone will be open at the top of this structure.
- 2). Roll out fondant and wrap it around both the cone and the tube, molding it in place with as little handling as possible to avoid fingerprints.
- 3). Roll the wrapped turret against a brick impression mat. An impression map is a plastic sheet with an imprint of bricks raised on it, available where cake decorating supplies are sold.
- 4). Wrap a sugar ice cream cone in fondant and insert the open end inside the top of the turret to make a spire. The pointed end of this cone points upward. Make several turrets to decorate a castle cake.
