Oranges and Clementines are from the same citrus fruit family. Clementines are smaller than oranges in size and sweeter in taste. The clementines are also mostly seedless and are easier to peel. Both oranges and clementines have their own varieties that differ in taste and origin. Learn about the different varieties of oranges and clementines, and make sure to include some of them in your grocery list. - Navel oranges are available are usually produced in November through late spring. Navel oranges have navels at the stem ends. These oranges are seedless and they peel easily. When shopping for Navel Oranges, buy ones that are firm and heavy. Avoid buying Navel Oranges during summer as it could get expensive. There is another type of Navel orange called Cara Cara oranges, which are available in stores during winter months. These oranges look similar to navel oranges on the outside; they look pink on the inside and have a sweet taste to it.
- Valencia oranges also called summer oranges are available in stores from February through October. These oranges have thinner skins and have seeds inside. Use Valencia oranges to make delicious fresh orange juice at home.
- Moro oranges are bright red on the inside and has few or no seeds inside. These oranges are generally available from January through April. Moro oranges make a great color and taste in salads.
- De Nules clementines are smaller than oranges and are seedless. They come in small to medium shapes. Once the clementines are ready to eat, the skin puffs up to make it easier to peel. De Nules are very juicy and sweet. De Nules mature in November, so you can find them in stores during winter season.
- Orovales clementines are generally larger compared to other clementines. Orovales clementines are also available in store during winter season. These tangy-yet-sweet clementines make perfect snack for your kids.
- Unlike the other clementines, Monreales clementines have seeds inside. The Monreales ripens early in October and are available also in winter season. Monreales are the sweetest when compared to other clementines, and the skin is very easy to peel.
