- 1). Use vinegar to neutralize odors quickly. Whether you have handled fish or a cutting board with an odd smell, vinegar will destroy any bad odors. The vinegar smell will also dissipate quickly, leaving you with clean, fresh air.
- 2). Cut, bake or simmer lemons for an easy, low-cost way to scent your home. Cut lemons for use in cleaning or to grind in a garbage disposal. Bake a whole lemon in your oven to release the scent. Simmer lemons or oranges with cinnamon and nutmeg on the stove top for natural potpourri.
- 3). Place an open carton of baking soda in your refrigerator to absorb food odors. You can also use coffee grounds, new or used, in the same manner.
- 4). Eliminate litter-box odors by combining the litter with two teaspoons of dried mint and mixing in one cup of baking soda.
- 5). Assemble lavender sachets from used nylon hosiery and fresh or dried lavender. Place the flowering parts of the lavender into the cut-off feet of the hosiery and tie off. Place these sachets in drawers and around rooms that you would like to scent.
