Product Review: Fuller Stain Spray

About.com Rating

Perhaps the most difficult part of doing laundry is knowing how to remove different types of stains. One solution is find the appropriate stain removal product to use with specific stains and fabrics.

Fuller Pre-Laundry Stain Remover

Fuller Pre-Laundry Stain Remover is a natural citrus-based solvent and emulsifiers that contains no phosphates or bleach. It is safe for all washable fabrics and can be used on grease, oil, dirt and food stains on all washable fabrics.

It is available in an aerosol formula and as a non-aerosol product that comes in a squeeze bottle with a pump spray.

After shaking the aerosol can, the product is applied directly to the stains and rubbed in. After one to three minutes, the fabric can be laundered with any detergent. The warmest water recommended for the fabric will give the best results in stain removal. For best results, spray stains as soon as possible. Set stains are harder to remove and may require a second application. For colored garments, test for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area of the garment.

The product is contains a warning that it is an irritant and combustible since the product is under pressure. Garments should never be treated while being worn. The stain remover should be kept away from heat, sparks and open-flames. Fuller Pre-Laundry Stain Spray should not be used on painted or plastic surfaces.

There are no ingredients listed. There is some additional ingredient information available from the Fuller Institute.

The 18 ounce can is made from metal but does not contain any recycling information. The suggested retail price is $9.99.

The Fuller Brush Company

The Fuller Brush Company was founded in 1906 by Alfred C. Fuller. For decades, the Fuller Brush Man was a welcome visitor to home in both urban and rural areas of the United States. Housewives could buy personal care products like hair brushes, cleaning tools and products that were designed to work, crafted to last and fully guaranteed.

The company has been owned by CPAC since 1969. And while there are still some independent distributors, Fuller Brush products are now available online.

Fuller Brands develops, manufactures and markets over 2,700 branded and private label products for commercial cleaning, household cleaning and personal care. Fuller Brands' three business units also sell these products across North America and internationally through distributors and service providers, catalogs, direct response television, private label arrangements, and direct marketing partners.

Laundry Recommendation

I gave Fuller Pre-Laundry Stain Spray a test on both natural (cotton) fabric and synthetic (polyester) that had cooking oil stains. The stains were fresh but had dried before treatment. The product worked well in removing those stains. With oil stains that were about a week old, a second treatment was necessary for the synthetic fabric when washed in cold water.

For ground-in soil (gardening knees on slacks) some discoloration remained. I got the best results on greasy, oily stains. If you have lots of oily stains in your laundry chores, this is an effective stain remover. It is more expensive than most stain removers and can be difficult to find except online.
