- Window clings are made using dimensional fabric paints of various colors. Glitter paints will work for this project, as will bold colors -- whatever you like.
Once you have decided what picture you want to create, such as a tree or reindeer, draw the reusable design out on paper. Place this template under a sheet of wax paper, use the paints to trace the design onto it. Carefully remove the cling from the wax paper after drying over night, and place it on the windows as desired. Make many different clings to create an entire scene on each window. - Wreaths are designed in many ways, using a variety of materials. Wreath forms of wire, styrofoam or greenery are often used as a base, as are grapevine forms. Some are decorated with pine cones while others are made using balls of yarn. Holiday colored ribbon and tiny presents are other options. Choose your materials and design a wreath for one or more of your windows. Hang them on the inside or outside of the glass.
- Paper snowflakes will sparkle in a window when decorated with glitter glue. Cut string at different lengths so that the flakes will hang at varying levels. Do this by taping the string to the area above the glass, either on the wall or the pane, so tape residue is not left on the window when the decorations come down.
Beaded snowflakes are also used for this purpose. Use holiday colors when creating these, and create many designs for different sizes and styles. - Another way to decorate a window is by painting a scene onto it. Mix washable liquid paint with an equal amount of liquid dish washing detergent to make homemade paints for this project. Have different colors of paint available to create your scene, as well as a small paint brush for each color. Paint a winter wonderland on a window, or a mantle scene. When the holiday is over, use a dry rag or paper towel to wipe the paint off the windows.
