- The obvious choice for drinks, especially for an outdoor skating party, is hot cocoa. If you can, purchase several large insulated containers and make the hot cocoa at home. It will stay hot in the containers until the girls are ready to drink it. Bring styrofoam cups with you, and mini marshmallows, of course. Remember that when kids are exercising, they also get thirsty, even when it's cold outside, so water bottles and juice boxes are necessary as well.
- Offer fun snacks for while the girls are skating, such as popcorn, chips and granola bars. Add a few healthy options like apples, whole grain crackers with cheese and veggies with dip, so the kids keep their energy up. A barbecue is ideal for a meal at an outdoor rink (be sure you get permission from the owners first). Keep it simple by grilling hamburgers and hotdogs. Order or make a cake with snowflake decorations or even an ice skate design.
- Choose white and light blue balloons and streamers, as well as plates and napkins, to reflect the icy theme. Silver confetti can decorate the table and add sparkle. Be sure to tape down everything securely if the party is outside. Buy small stuffed penguins and place them in the middle of the table for a centerpiece. Give one to each girl as a party favor at the end of the day.
- Skating will be the main activity, but be sure to have a couple of other things planned for if the girls get cold or tired, or if their feet start hurting. Bring a fleece blanket for each girls so they can be warm while they sit at the table. Have snowflake or skate shaped cookies that the kids can decorate with icing and sprinkles. Alternatively, have wooden skate ornaments to paint and decorate, or a picture frame. Then take a picture of all the girls and give them each a copy to go in their frame for a perfect skating party memento.
