- 1). Select a yellow t-shirt or a yellow dress, depending on what the person wearing the costume would want to wear. If you go with a yellow shirt, select a pair of jeans to wear with it.
- 2). Create black horizontal stripes on the t-shirt or dress using pieces of black electrical tape. Place the stripes about two inches apart. The number of stripes on your outfit will differ depending on the length.
- 3). Paint two 1-inch Styrofoam balls yellow, and allow them to dry. These will be used for the ends of the bumblebee's antennae.
- 4). Twist two black pipe cleaners around a black headband so that they are attached. Press one styrofoam ball down on to each pipe cleaner to complete the antennae.
- 5). Cut two wings out of cardboard. The size of the wings will differ depending on the height of the person wearing the costume. They should be long enough to cover the space between the top of the person's shoulders and their waist. If you are not comfortable cutting the wings free hand, draw them onto the cardboard before cutting them out.
- 6). Paint stripes onto the wings using black and yellow acrylic paint, and allow the paint to dry. Make each stripe about 4 inches wide if your wings are made for an adult and are large. For a child's costume, make them about 2 inches wide. Staple the wings together in the center.
- 7). Using your scissors, poke two holes into each wing. The holes should be placed vertically in a column a few inches to the left and right of the center of the cardboard wings. Place the holes about a third of the distance from the top and bottom of the wings. Thread elastic bands through the two holes and tie the ends together so that you can slide the wings onto your arms. Choose strips of elastic from a craft store and measure an appropriate length to fit through the holes and around the arms of the person who will wear the costume. The size will differ based on the size of the person wearing the bumblebee outfit.
