- 1). Select a pyramid weight in the one-to-four-ounce range, depending on surf conditions, and thread the main line, coming from your rod, through the pyramid weight eye and attach a large swivel to the end of the line using a Trilene knot.
- 2). To tie the Trilene knot, run the end of the line through the eyelet on the swivel. Double back and run the line through the eye again, leaving a small loop. Wrap the loose end of the line around the standing part, the part leading back to your rod, six times. Thread the loose end in the small loop by the eye. Tighten the knot by moving the wrappings down to the eye while simultaneously pulling on the loose end. Clip the light when the knot is tight.
- 3). Attach the 18-to-20-inch leader to the swivel. To the other end of the leader attach a saltwater hook in the 1/0 to 3/0 range, depending on the bait used.
