- 1). Remove all electrical power from the humidifier unit.
- 2). Empty the reservoir of all liquids. Access the electrodes for your specific model and type of steam humidifier. Consult your unit's operational manual.
- 3). Place the electrodes over a plastic bucket. The minerals adhering to the electrodes can be extremely messy.
- 4). Begin at the top of the first electrode and scrape the minerals off the rod, in a downward motion. Do not hit the metal scraper against the electrode rod, as this can cause the material to break.
- 5). Work the minerals from one rod at a time. Wipe the cleaned rod with a rag. Clean the underside of the housing that holds the electrodes of any loose mineral material.
- 6). Rinse the electrodes in clean water. Pat the electrodes dry.
- 7). Install the electrodes back into the humidifier unit.
