- Make a round cake and top it with a flat black LP record made of dark chocolate or royal icing. Write the title of your friend's favorite album on the label. Alternatively, stick several small candy records into the top of the cake vertically and at different angles, to give the impression of spinning discs. A third possibility is to leave the top undecorated and cover the sides of the cake with small candy records.
- Cover your friend's cake with generic musical notes, or create a flat sheet of white royal icing painted to look like the sheet music from his favorite song. Top the cake with musical instruments, such as a rock guitar and drums, and surround them with small musical notes made of icing or candy. Alternatively, you could top a flat cake with an edible photo of your friend in action, surrounded by musical notes.
- Design a cake that makes use of a DJ's electronic gear. Make a round cake look like it's wearing headphones by putting a pair of candy headphones around the cake's sides. Top a square cake with a boom box made from candy, or a second layer of cake. Add a candy mic to the top of the cake, or draw it in royal icing and add it to the other decorations.
- Decorate the top of a square cake to look like a dance floor, complete with a DJ, DJ's table and dancers. For an added touch of authenticity, give the DJ figure the same hair color and physical characteristics that your friend has, and craft the dancers so that their expressions and body language say, "This DJ rocks!"
